Wound Center & Hyperbaric Medicine
Indiana Regional Medical Center (IRMC) is the only regional hospital that offers a dedicated Center for Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Medicine to help heal chronic wounds as well as hyperbaric oxygen therapy for nonhealing wounds.
The center offers services to help heal wounds such as:
- Diabetic ulcers.
- Lower leg ulcers.
- Pressure ulcers (bedsores).
- Bone infections.
- Skin tears or lacerations.
- Radiation burns.
- Postoperative wounds and infections.
The center provides these services as an outpatient program. Patients’ wounds heal through weekly visits with the center’s doctors and wound specialists. The staff evaluates not just the wound itself, but other medical and physical conditions which may affect the healing process. IRMC’s wound center works closely with your physician as well as other medical specialists and services to achieve results.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
The Center for Wound Healing is the only regional hospital to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) as an addition to our aggressive wound healing protocol.
Patients benefit from HBOT by breathing 100 percent oxygen in increased atmospheric pressure. The increased oxygen level in the tissue promotes healing and fights infection. HBOT has been proven to be effective in healing wounds from certain medical conditions, such as diabetic wounds, as well as certain bone and skin infections.
Wounds treated with HBOT include:
- Diabetic foot wounds.
- Skin graft/flap salvage.
- Soft tissue radiation damage.
- Chronic refractory osteomyelitis.
- Progressive necrotizing infections.
